Magnetism is an organic metal sculpture created with many different parts taken from old and disused watches. Her parts include brass watch train gears, balance wheels, cogs, and other recycled watch parts. Her outer structure is not premade by an outside company, but assembled from scratch out of watch winding gears and balance wheels. Glue is never, ever used--these pieces are soldered with lead free silver bearing solder for maximum quality and lifespan. Magnetism is one of a kind, and will never, ever be reproduced exactly.

I've always wondered, these are really small gears to solder, don't they ever snap off? I'm no expert on soldering, but it seems like just one tiny drop of solder isn't enough to hold them reliably in place for long wearing...

Either way, I realy admire your work!

They only snap off if I've used the wrong type of metal (aluminum, for instance, won't solder) You'd be surprised how strong just that tiny drop of metal actually is. Thanks for the compliment!

I've attempted something similar for my dad's last birthday. I tried to solder a bunch of gears on a stainless steel flask. Turns out stainless steel doesn't hold solder either, so I had to glue them... I'm thinking of coating/finishing the flask and the gears with something to make it look a bit worn out and to fill the smaller gaps that could lead to the gears snapping off... Do you happen to have any suggestions?
