Chronoton
Made from recycled watch parts and soldered together with lead free, silver bearing solder
Completed 11-6-14

Chronoton features a head made from a watch face that has been hand cut, sanded and shaped into a skull-like face and jaw.. The eye holes are hand drilled (the only electric equipment I use in my studio is my soldering iron). The sides of his head are embellished with different colored bearing assemblies and spacers.

His torso was created my soldering a ladies watch band into a spine shape, then attaching four watch plates to act as shoulder and hip mounting points. He features a golden tone heart made from a discarded piece of jewelry (hard to see in pictures!) behind a sternum made from a cut dial and ribs of straightened balance wheels and watch plates. His collars are made from antique balance wheels, and he has other embellishments of watch plates, wheels, and spring straps.

His arms and legs are a combination of assorted watch plates, cut faces, strap springs, winding stems and other parts soldered to the body via brass watch spring barrels. The hands and feet and made from individually broken and soldered winding stems attached to brass faces.

All creations made by A Mechanical Mind are one of a kind, never to be reproduced exactly. All parts are soldered, never glued. This sculpture comes with a 3” wide by 4” tall glass display dome with wooden base. Sculptures are not toys and should be handled sparingly, as their parts are tiny and delicate.
