Beastie
Completed August 16, 2013

Beastie is a one of a kind arthropod made completely of recycled watch parts

His body is made from many different brass gears that have been soldered to small watch plates for a different, intricate, layered effect. These assemblies are attached to a base made from two European balance wheels that have been connected by a watch strap spring. A watch plate with embedded sapphire watch jewels acts as a back plate. Winding stems act as antennae.

The legs of this creature are made from strap springs and watch winding stems. Each of the six legs consists of five different parts that have seven soldered joints apiece.

One arm is a pincher made from three different watch plates and strap springs. The other is a hand made from several winding stems.

Beastie's head is made from many strap springs, with eyes of watch jewels, ears of bearing assemblies, and jaws of watch plates. Gold colored watch straps act as a connectors from the head to the body.

Beastie is soldered together using silver bearing, lead free solder. No glue was used in the creation of this piece.

Dimensions: 55mm wide 67mm tip to tail 44mm tall He comes with a 3" by 4" glass dome with walnut base for display. He is extremely fragile and should be handled sparingly and very gently, and is most definitely not a toy.
